Losing someone you love is difficult and when you add violence to the loss it makes it even more so. Break the Silence against Domestic Violence honors our angels by shining a light on their memory and their story. It is our honor to memorialize our angels because they are a big part in why we are driven to create the largest impact possible. It is our angels who also remind us to break our silence because we are survivors. We speak for them and we want to hear your angels story.
Remembering Tina: Written by her sister Beverley
One of the hardest things for me in losing my Sister was the headlines. One day there they were. Screaming out. The loss of my Sister. The “next” day. Nothing. Her story. Buried. Under the new ones. The “current” news. The “latest” tragedy. The “new” headline.
It was devastating. To me. I was still in shock. Still reading. Each. And every. Word. Still trying to make it. Make sense. I was trying to “read” between the lines. Trying so hard. To “see” what I had missed. Where were the “signs”. Where was the “warning.” How could I. Have stopped it. How could I. Have “gotten” there. In time. How. How. How. Could this. Have happened.
What “Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence” or BTSADV for short is doing is this. They’re trying to begin the conversation. BEFORE we get to the headline. Before we get to the loss. Of that which can’t ever be recovered. A life.
They’re also honoring those we’ve lost. By telling their stories. Not only the tragic ending. But the story of who they were. What they loved. How they lived. This is what brings healing. To those who’ve been left behind.
My Sister Tina LOVED laughter. She LOVED making others laugh. She had the most distinctive laugh of all! You could hear it across the room. From outside. From down the street. It was CONTAGIOUS!! Everyone who knew her LOVED HER LAUGH! It is that. And a billion other. Big. And little things. That we who loved her will always remember.
That is what BTSADV is giving us back. Not the headlines. The PERSON behind the headlines. How I miss my Sister. How I wish she was here. Beside me. Laughing.
But. Since she is not. We will offer up ALL of her life. To others. So that another’s “story” will have a different ending. TINA ALWAYS WANTED TO MATTER. TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS. Please help her do that.
You can give by texting RUNBTS94 to 71777. All gifts are tax deductible and will go directly into the Fund at BTSADV that helps the victims and survivors of Domestic Violence rebuild their lives. Tina didn’t live long enough. But someone else can. With your help. Thank you. #TeamTina #AngelRun
