Most non-profit organizations are born from someone’s personal experience. In the case of domestic violence awareness, advocates tend to have some form of connection to the topic. Often they are survivors or know someone who is a survivor of domestic violence. It is because of this connection that they want to help others with a similar experience.
But in order to empower and reach these people, the organization has to have the means to offer much-needed resources to survivors. The organization needs the financial means to spread education and continue the fight against domestic violence.
When people come together as one, their voices and efforts can be powerful. Many survivors who are accessing resources, educational scholarships, support groups, and the hotline want to give back to other survivors of domestic violence.
Take, for example, our very own Angel Run. What a powerful way to bring awareness, empower a survivor with a scholarship and encourage unity. Maybe you are at home wondering how you can raise money for an organization like BTS so we can continue to empower survivors of domestic violence.
Below are some fun and creative ways to raise money for a powerful cause like Angel Run. These 15 fundraising tips are fun and easy to put together and can have extraordinary outcomes.
Crowdfunding is a great way to reach out to everyone you know and ask them for their support. A campaign can explain your reasons for fundraising and where the donations will go towards.
When donors can see where their money is going and how their donations will be used, they are more likely to give and continue giving.
A chili cook-off is the perfect fundraising event. You can bring together people with a common interest and encourage them to spend time together for a good cause. All you have to do is gather your best chili chefs and cook up a pot of delicious stew. Then sell tickets to your family, friends, community, and church.
This is a fundraiser that can be done by selecting the fundraiser button on Facebook. You can easily post pictures and describe what your cause is all about. You can share on your page and even invite your friends. Yes, sending the invitation to Facebook friends can be a little intimidating, but the cause is greater than the fear of asking. Just remember that Facebook takes a portion of the donations.
AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. You can share the link and invite others to join.
Yard sale and lemonade stand
They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. You can host a yard sale to raise funds for the Angel Run. You can even invite your neighbors, family, and friends to join your cause. They can donate items to sell and help you on the day of the event. You can share on social media and make bright posters to attract customers.
While you are at it, you can also have a lemonade stand. Customers can feel refreshed with a cup of cold lemonade while you tell them about your cause.
Host a pancake breakfast at a school, park, or church. Ask for a specific suggested donation for your cause. You can have brochures and posters made to bring awareness of your cause.
Do you know any musicians? Ask them to perform a benefit concert at a park or in a backyard. Invite friends, friends of friends, and family. The event can be as casual or formal as you’d prefer.
This is an easy one. Perhaps you can get a free rental room through a business, school, or church. You can always have a movie night in your own backyard, as well. You can select a family movie (family friendly) and announce a family movie night. Invite family, friends, and neighbors. You can sell popcorn, soda, and snacks. If you select a movie more geared for adults, you can offer a movie date night and offer babysitting, where you can ask for donations or charge a fee for each child.
Face painting event
Do you know someone who knows how to face paint? Why not create an event, maybe on a Saturday morning, and ask for a donation or charge a fee for face painting. This can easily be paired with a lemonade stand or paired with a yard sale.
Yes, I can go Krispy Krèmes and buy donuts there, but when I see an organization or church selling donuts, I like to donate towards the cause. This is easy as you can create the fundraiser and ask family/friends to also help sell. You can offer a prize to the person who sells the most dozens. It is an easy and fun way to raise funds.
Used book sale/coffee night
This is my favorite one. It’s so easy to collect books from family, friends, and even neighbors. If you can have them donate books, then you can host an event where you can open your book sale to the public. And a why not throw in some yummy coffee for readers who come to your book sale? You can even set up some tables so they can read and drink coffee. This is a good opportunity for fellowship and to share about your cause. Connecting with the community is valuable.
Why not host a bake sale? You can go to stores or even your local farmer’s markets. This is a great opportunity to raise funds and share about BTS with customers who come to your table. You can pass out BTS brochures and can include a nice tag on your bake goodies with the BTS link.
Gardening for money
This one is hard work, but if you know about gardening, you can advertise that you can weed or tend to someone’s garden for a set amount. If you advertise on social media to family and friends, you can create a good list that can turn into good cash for your cause. You can also invite some friends or family members to help you.
Are you artistic or love crafts? Then you can create some crafts that you to sell at a farmer’s market or combine it with a yard sale. Maybe you can invite other survivors to create jewelry and sell them.
Give it up
I love coffee…or iced blended coffees, especially in the summer. Every time I go to Starbucks or Roaster’s Coffee I give up a least $4.00. So, why not ask family and friends to give up their favorite coffee drink and donate that amount of money to your cause? You can even ask them to participate for a certain amount of days.
